PocketReader 1.0 for Newton Message Pad

Introduction
------------

PReader.pkg is a Newton package that allows the Newton Messagepad 
to download data from a Siemens Pocket Reader OCR pen.

PReader has been tested on a MessagePad 2100 (MP2k) in portrait and 
landscape modes. It should run on any Newton running NewtonOS 2.0 or 2.1


Installation
------------

1. Install the runtime.pkg if you do not already have it on your Newton.
2. Install the PReader.pkg
3. Use the Mac cable included with your Pocket Reader to connect to the 
serial port on your Newton. You need to use the Newton Interconnect Adapter 
(dongle) on a MP2k or MP2100.



Use
---

Launch PReader on your Newton. You will see four buttons above the 
edit area, and two pickers below the edit area. The newton keyboard 
will automatically open; you can close it if necessary.

The Load and Stop! buttons start and stop the transfer of data from 
the Pocket Reader to the Newton. The Pocket Reader must be connected 
and turned on before pressing Load. The Clear button erases the data 
from the edit area on the Newton, but does not erase any data from 
the Pocket Reader. The Save button saves the text from the edit area 
to either the Notepad or the Clipboard, depending on the setting of 
the Destination picker. The Separator Picker allows you to insert 
spaces, tabs, newlines, or nothing between scans.

The routing button at the bottom of the screen can be used to fax or 
print the data from the PReader screen; the other routing options do 
not work.

To save storage on your Newton, use the Clear button to erase the text 
before exiting.
